Hi there,

After extensive research I finally decided to buy the Mares Nemo dive computer for the same reasons probably everybody else that bought it did. (Does everything I need, looks cool, user replacable battery etc) Anyway, now to the problems....
Well, not a problem as such, I love the Nemo and want to wear it as my day watch but as has been noted on these forums the thing is VERY vunerable to scratches, I think mainly due to the curved surface of the screen. Does anyone have any ideas as to how I prevent scratches? I was thinking about using some clear sticky back plastic but I'm not sure about the curved surface.

Oh, and how come no one has the screen guards yet?

thanks in advance.
Sean.

With a title like that, I was expecting this thread to be about a Clown Fish.

BTW Sage, great idea on the PDA covers to protect your "lens" of your computer.

Actually the glass itself is pretty tough, I have a Titanium model and the only scratch on it after 50+ dives is on the metal itself (so tiny I am the only one who can see it LOL), but the PDA protector idea seems good, I’ll try it. How does the salt water affect it, does it peel of fast?
And I would also buy a face protector if I could find one :-)

BTW, the computer itself is awesome!

Thanks everyone, I'm definately going to try the pda protector. Ivan glad you like the computer, not so many people here seem to use it judging by the computer poll.

You know why you really want it...
looks cool
Me too, I wish my Uwatec would break...:)

It has a hardened mineral glass face, so I think it would be hard to scratch. But maybe with daily wear it would get scuffed up.

For items I use with vulnerable faces I use a piece of standard packing tape the clear kind. Place a layer over and then cut around the edge. That is how I am protecting my radio and pager here in the desert and it works great. The best part is after a few months when it wears out you can change it and a roll of tape is what $1 maybe $2.

Mares do make screen guards for the Nemo and have done for 6 months.

Also make sure you get the newer Nemo, they have a much harder face

I now have over 100 dives on my Titanium Nemo, it really is a great little dead sexy computer.

Cheers
Chris

Me again, cheers bigsage! Just covered the nemo with pda film and viola! Perfect, just needed a very slight cut at the edge to allow for the curvature of the face.

People, forget all about this 'saphire screen' thing, I brushed up against something yesterday (Don't know what) but I now have a small scratch on the face. Tiny for sure, but irritating as it's only day three of ownership.

Why have no dive places got or heard of a face guard?

Why is it beyond Mares to launch a guard at the same time as the computer? Do none of them dive? :06:
