I've decided on the A75 with Canon housing and should be ordering it sometime this week. I think this camera should work out well for me. I semi enjoyed the reefmaster but its focusing distance was very limiting for close-ups which were most of the pics I took. Give me any ideas on small extras I may want to order with it. I'm thinking of either 2- 256mb compact flash cards or one 512. Give me your thoughts. I think I could get plenty of pics with this much memory since all my dive trips so far have including 4 total dives and maybe 1 night dive on our own. The only reason I'm thinking two 256's is if one of them corrupts during a trip. That way I would still have some pics left. Any input is appreciated. Thanks in advance for the suggestions. Greg

Having a backup card is a good idea, but get the largest you can afford. The prices on the 512s are dropping all the time and the extra memory is worth it - you might not use it everytime, but I guarnatee there will be a dive here or there that you will kick yourself if you don't have it!

IMHO you should download your card after every dive day. Then if the worst should happen you have only lost the photos from that dive or day - not your whole vacation.

Just got the A85 myself, still waiting fot the housing, where did you but your housing??

I'm buying both from flashpointcameras on ebay. Here is the link to their store.

This guys got incredible feedback. Over 4000 sales with a 99.9% positive feedback rating.

The a75 is $174, housing is $160 and is the same housing the a85 uses. I'm getting the housing and a75 camera both delivered for just under $350. I may be persuaded to jump up to the a85, his price on it is $238. If he'll make me a good enough deal then thats what I'll do. Let me know how you like yours. Thanks, Greg

Alcina, Is there something other than a laptop that I could download my pics into? I can pull off the camera pretty easily but asking for a laptop too might be pushing it a little. Let me know if I have other options. Thanks again, Greg

There are lots of choices. Check out this thread on portable storage devices

Depending on where you travel, check out internet cafes etc as they often offer a burning service so you can back straight up onto DVDs or CDs. Your accommodation might be able to point you in the right direction.

I would never risk multi days diving on a card - superstitious, I know.

I also like to be able to review what I have done so I can do better on the next dive or try to get a shot right that almost worked. The review portion of my shooting is essential. Epson has a new one that looks great and might be OK for those short trips where a laptop isn't handy...though mostly I will be dragging my laptop anyway.

Thanks again Alcina. Thats some pretty good info. I could purchase a couple of CF cards and the storage device without spending an arm and a leg. Thanks again for the input. Greg

Hi Greg,

Already own the camera and was thinking about the housing. What did you decide about buying the canon WW-DC1 UNDERWATER CASE WEIGHTS? I am brand new to underwater photography and don't know if these are truly necessary. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

Lauren
