You're not alone. I prefer a BC also. Have worn early 70s BPs before there were any Ws, then the first BP/W, an Atpac from Watergill. When the first fabric vests came out to attach, it was a step in the right direction IMHO.
Now you can have your choice of BCs or BP/Ws that will allow tech upgrades or stay sleek and light.
Isn't it great?

Not everyone loves a BP/W. I would venture to guess that the majority of divers will never dive a BP/W setup. There are some very passionate BP/W users on this forum who infiltrate every BC post with their suggestion of a BP/W, but that does not mean that it is the right set up for you. Choose want YOU want to dive. Zeagle makes both, so I have no reason to point you one way or another - I am just offering you MY opinion.

Yup as this thread and basically every thread in the BC forum will show, people here will answer any question with "Get a bp/w". You could ask what kind of flashlight to get to fit into your bc pocket and get "Get a bp/w". I guess when the staff members are even doing it it only encourages the fanatics.

ANYWAY. I'm waiting on my triple-l orion right now. I don't know if money is an issue but if so you may want to check out the orion. It is back-inflate and can be equiped to do doubles (though for all i know it may be cheesy with doubles). If it's definately a zeagle you'r after then Scott is the man to talk to.

On edit: If i could swing it though i'd be all over the Brigade. It sounds pretty darn beefy and made with easier travel then the Ranger in mind.

Yeah that's because only 12 people in the world use BP/W setups. The thing is, they're all on this board and they work in in shifts to make sure the first reply to ANY BCD question is about BP/W.

The subject could be "I really really don't want a BP/W...which BC to get?" First reply? Get a BP/W...you just don't know any better.

One theory is that the backplate piches a blood vessel that allows for circulation to that part of the brain that allows for tolerance of people with different opinions. Once the blood supply is cut off, the BP/W folks are left with a comforting sense of self-assuredness...that their way is the only way. People with this condition can become a little overzealous at times, as when someone asked in the Fins section whether Bio Fins or Jets were better, and was immediately given the reply that neither was better, since the best solution is to strap two aluminium backplates to the feet.

As far as YOUR question, that Brigade sure looks sweet to me, though I haven't dove in one. I like the way that Larry has managed to keep the design flexible, with interchangeable straps so you can get a great fit. I read somewhere on this board that the other types of Zeagles now have stitched straps and cannot be changed out. Maybe Larry or Scott will clarify the issue. In any event, the Brigade looks sweet to me, and Zeagle's reputation is awesome. But you knew that.

Like i said before, buy what you like, the BP/W is a good option to consider if you are thinking of doubles and want a back inflate. It is not the only option, but certainly one to consider if you dont like the jacket squeeze. You can rent BP/W from place in Florida. The wings from Zeagle also work with other BP, so essentially if you can get to a Zeagle dealer you can get any of their products pretty quickly. The ranger etc are more likely to be in stock. I do dive the BP/W, i love it with my singles and doubles. I dont like the insinuation that somehow mods/staff here are pushing one over the other, nor that there is something genetically wrong with BP/W users, i dont call you poodle jacket wearing weenies (like other members of the board might be apt to post), cos i am not that kind of person Of course i didnt hear about BP/W till i got on here, but i hadnt heard of a lot of things at that time. Just opening your mind to other options (you can find them in USA, Oz or far east depending on your abilities to travel), without closing my own mind. I enjoyed diving regular back inflates, i didnt so much a jacket, but i enjoy my BP/W the most - you may not find the same enjoyment about this option

It's difficult to find a single thread in the BC forum where the BP/W folks don't come a-knockin like the Jehova's Witnesses of diving.

So, um, lighten up. Why don't you mix up a little holiday appetiser tray and serve it on your backplate? After that you can play a game of checkers on it with a friend

I find them useful for diving, i like diving them. Sorry i forgot the smilies in my post, but i think you did as well But you werent the only one to mention that i happened to find the post early on and put up my thoughts - my mini-rant was in response to all above on the BP/W users are lemmings and stupid, yours just happened to be the last installment.

I also just hate being lumped in with the GI3 lemmings as well.

I guess I would have a toe in both camps. If you are going to do tech in the future, try the BP/w. If you are going to stay rec, then I side with Frenchy. Buy the Brigade...I also own one.

I have a Ranger, but I rather like the Escape. The Brigade or Stilletto are also options.

The Stilletto I believe is new, or at least I've never noticed it before. Realistically the Escape is heavy enough for any type of Single tank diving that one would do. One of the DM's I've dove with had one, and it seemed like a VERY nice compromise between weight, functionality, and size even if it's not as heavy duty as the Ranger.

I can NOT comment on the BP/Wing thing.

whats up everyone.
i just got an oceanic probe bc for the holiday, its an all around cool bc, pockets, weight system, all that bs. i tried it on inflated it and the thing took my breath away it fit fine but when i inflated it i just didnt like the constricting. its time to scrap the jacket and move onto the back inflate im just kinda fed up with them. i have never dove a back inflate bc so im new in that area. doing research here and other places i only hear one name when it comes to bi and thats zeagle. i like the brigade (scubatoys), and the escape. i am not really into double tank diving right now or anything really technical, but prob will be in the future. i would like a bc that can kinda grow with my diving education. i will be diving in mainly warm waters, but cold is most likely a possibility as i am going to be traveling with the navy. what bc do you guys think will fit me? i didnt want to include the ranger because i do alot of traveling right now and the ranger is to big and the lift is way more than i need. any input would be sweet, thanks everyone.
