UTTERLY fantastic day. Met new buddies today thanks to Capt jim Wyatt. All
I look forward to diving with again, but 2 in particular..Steve and Mike, my hat is off to you guys, and Capt Wyatt in particular for putting this together.

After an initial drop and swim through on the Adolphis Busch...Boomers! We hit Looe Key for our 2nd dive. In all fairness the reef was teaming with life. A 6' free swiming Green Moray was cool for starters. Then I noticed that we were being ghosted by a school of sizable Cudas. Nice Guys, The Blue tangs,
and snapper were everywhere. Buy the way...Mike and Steve had cameras. I thought this was great due the fact that my Oly rig is coming together, and one more shipment from Yuzo, and its...I digress.

Fast forward...Mike is hovering over the reef...great technique..framing a Blue tang....looks like its going to be a great shot...BUT...He doesnt notice the Bull shark INCHES from his head. If he would raise his head his eyelash would scare the creature. The shark is just hovering there...I am screaming into my regulator for the guy to look up. You must try this sometime. Its useless. I swear he is right next to me so I swipe at him...water fools you. I look around for Steve. He is on the other side of the reef wall. I am eyeballing this shark. Its just hovering over Mike who is totally engrossed in the blue tang now well hidden in the coral. The shark is like.."Hey Guy!..Aint you gonna get this? LOOK!...PROFILE!....HOLLYWOOD!...CANT TOUCH THIS!" Finally, totally insulted, and feeling quite rejected with a flick of the tale...just as Mike looks up...Its gone. He did see the tail though.

Steve now rises above the reef wall and becons to me about 15' away. I swim over, drop down, he points, and I swear this thing escaped from the SciFi Channel. I have NEVER seen a lobster that HUGE. Its antennae were the size of Deluxe tickle sticks.

It was a great day. Thanks Reef Divers.

Cool. I was wondering how it went.. Glad you had a good time. I love going to Looe Key! Weather couldn't of been more perfect...

Come to New Brunswick.. Off Deer Island there is a Lobster in it's Burrow.. the only thing is He is way to big for it.. His claws hang out, and they are about the Size of my Dacor Panther fin blade. I swear this has to be stuck he's so big... I would guestimate he's about 40 or 50lbs.... of one of the Large Lobster ... Picture is grainy was copied using a digital camera....

Congrats on seeing the shark.. That's awsome. Saw a small blue shark here and like your buddy mine had no clue it was there.. swam past it even with me screaming in my reg.

My wife and I had a similar experience today. We were diving by ourselves on the third reef off Hillsboro (Rabbit Ears) in about 50 ft of water. I was looking down as we appoached a spot where the reef kind of jutted out in our path and rose maybe 8-10 feet off the sand. My wife hit her scub-alert and I looked up. The first thing I saw looked like a baby hammerhead about 2 feet long heading right for me. Then out of the corner of my eye I caught the dorsal and tail fins of a 6-7 foot reef shark swimming away. Turns out the shark and my wife looked eye to eye as she rose over the rise in the reef. I'm not sure who was more surprised. The "baby hammerhead" turned out to be a sharksucker (Humann/DeLoach). A couple weekends back we took the long drive up to Jupiter looking for the lemon sharks. No luck. But then right in our own backyard...

How come every one sees sharks but me?

Great report.

Chuck
