LATINA It was supposed to be yet another deep dive in search of spectacular images but this time, in the waters of Favignana, the adventure turned into tragedy. David Salvatori, 52, from Latina, died after being struck by an illness. The man had gone to the Sicilian island, in the Egadi archipelago, to dive with two other friends. According to the reconstruction, the three had abseiled around 13.30 yesterday with the support of a guide, but suddenly David Salvatori felt ill, the request for help was triggered and the Coast Guard soldiers intervened. Unfortunately, the rescues given to the Pontine diver were useless, his body was transferred to the port of the Sicilian island but the doctors could not help but ascertain the death. Friends of the victim hospitalized in the hyperbaric chamber.

The group was on a guided dive and was located about three miles east of the island of Favignana. On the quay of the Harbor Master’s Office, the coroner carried out the cadaveric reconnaissance and then the body was transferred to the Sant’Antonio Abate hospital in Trapani. It will be an investigation by the Public Prosecutor’s Office to establish the exact dynamics of the accident.

David Salvatori worked as a project manager in a large company, he lived in Cerveteri, but his real passion was the sea. Since 2008 he has specialized in underwater photography, with particular attention to the conservation of the most endangered species. He organized trips all over the world and his pictures of him had been published in the most prestigious magazines in the sector. He had also written a book, “Scatti Sommersi” which he presented around Italy. The last event last June 25, in Castellammare di Stabia, where David had met many fans like him. Then the trip to Favignana and the fatal dive.

It sounds like it happened deep enough that his buddies were injured on a rapid ascent in an attempt to save him.

Such sad news, I had been diving with David in the Philippines a few years ago, super fit guy and into long distance running as well. He was a real gifted photographer as well. RIP my friend.
