So, after attending Neal Pollack's DAN talk a couple of weeks ago, I decided that it might be a good idea to set my Zoop to a slightly more conservative personal setting. I wear two Zoops while diving. I set one of the Zoops to the P1 setting (more conservative) while keeping the other at the P0 (less conservative) setting. My dive buddy and I headed over to our local quarry in Rolesville, NC last weekend to see how the NDL times compared between the two settings.
On our first dive, the Zoop with the more conservative setting consistently showed my depth to be four feet shallower than the Zoop with the less conservative setting. We dove to a maximum depth of 37 feet (according to my less conservatively set Zoop, my dive buddy's Zoop and my dive buddy's Cobra). The supposedly more conservative computer showed a depth of 33 feet while the other displayed 37 feet. As we ascended to the surface at the end of our dive, the more conservatively set Zoop showed me at the surface when I was still four feet below the surface.
During our surface interval I reset the personal setting back to P0 so that both computers would have the same settings. On the second dive, both computers consistently showed the same depth throughout the dive.
I don't know what to make of this. Has anyone else had this experience with their Zoop? The computer is less than two years old and has about 140 dives on it. Should I take it back to my local dealer and ask for a replacement?
