While the hip belt carries the weigh on shore, it does not seem to add an positive bouyancy in the water, the rig is very comforatable in water, and it attitute is very horizontal. It actually disappears when in the water.
 
The positive buoyancy would be my concern; if it's neutral and it doesn't ride up, terrific. It certainly looks slick.
 
Or before you buy check www.golemgear.com . Sturdy looking gear at GREAT prices if they haven't gone up yet. I don't have one but they look great and the price can't be beat!

Doesn't ride up as it is attached to a solid back piece. The BC is back is ridged so that the waist strap stays put. Only issue I have is that the waist belt goes where you would typically have a weight belt. This almost forces you to use the integred weight pockets.
