Every time a discussion like this comes up I get interested in trying an old double hose reg. Nemrod and Luis, you guys are very bad influences!

Luis is down right evil, I am just bad. :D N

And the rest of us that dive these old regs, that your LDS says will KILL you :no, are just naughty.

If you ever try one, you will turn to the DARK SIDE!!! :rofl3::rofl3:

As a vintage single hoser DIY you are already half way to the dark side…going to a double hose and a DIY you definitely take it up a few notches…we are talking the DARK SIDE. :D

It is a lot of fun.

But then again, I am not sure we need you and Couv buying of all the DH on eBay …they have already gone up in price enough in the last few years.

Actually, the price does vary a lot…there are plenty of Aqua Masters and even sufficient Royal Aqua Master for anyone that wants a good diving double hose. A bit of patience may be required at times (and then there is always VDH for a recondition finished product).

I suppose you could just look straight ahead as you dive, instead of looking head's down like you probably are...

Imagine bubbles flowing -- as you exhale looking straight ahead, bubbles will go up out of the exhaust T...and really shouldn't go past you ears.

Now look down at the ground, and imagine bubbles flowing up...right past your ears....

Problem solved.

Actually, I believe the maximum the human neck can flex up is about 45 degrees. I have a “humans factors” engineering book with a lot of this kind data, but it is at work. If you would like I can confirm this tomorrow.

The point is that if you are truly swimming in a horizontal position the very best you can do is rotate your head up about 45 degrees (but even that gets tiring after a while). You sometimes feel like you are looking ahead because your eyes can rotate up. That is why you can look straight up at the ceiling, but have someone take a picture of you when you are looking straight at the ceiling and you will see what I am describing.

I recommend the Kronos for deflecting the bubbles away from your ears... I dive one and for the amount of money and for what it accomplishes is great... You will get zero bubbles on one side of your face; so one ear will never get bubbles... The second air will get a bypass of some bubbles but my hood keeps that to a minimal...

I enjoy this reg for the amateur photography that I do, it is top notch in this category...

I'd love to try a double hose reg
Are the new mistrals terrible?

Compared to a refurbished older double hose - YES, the new mistral is terrible.

Most of the "hard parts" in the old double hose regulators are the same as today's Aqualung products, so keeping the old units operating is not a problem. And with the latest silicone replacements now becoming available for the "soft parts", there is no comparison.

With the invention of the Phoenix Nozzle for the DA Aquamaster, by Luis, you can now have the advantages of a double hose that breathes like a dream, that also lets you use all the things that have made diving easier (better??) - octo, spg, inflator.

Sounds interesting... I've always wanted to give a double hose a try
Does anyone know where i can get one of these phoenix nozzled aquamaster's in Australia?
And... is it going to cost me a fortune?
