Looking to buy a new reg that wont blow bubbles into my ears. I dive a bit and if I do about 5 dives a day on a trip, I tend to get an ear ache mainly in one ear due to the bubbles constantly getting into my hood and into my ear. I dont want to spend TOO much money, but I realize my reg is an important piece of my diving equipment. Any advice or comments would be much appreciated.

Depending on what reg your currently using, a wider exhaust tee can help. Atomic for example, makes one that can be retrofitted. Other than that, I'm not sure what to tell you. Never heard about this particular kind of problem. Perhaps a hood with a tighter seal would help?

Sure its not your nose letting some tiny air out, squeezing out of the mask and into the hood?

Im using a Scubapro r380. My hood is good, but I just seem to always feel the bubbles thumping against the side of my head. Im in the market for an upgrade reg anyways, so I could use some advice on the best reg I can get for a decent price. I mainly dive in the frigid waters of California-only the best!!

Well, yes, there is but your not going to like it. Yep, a double hose regulator like the last of the line, silky smooth and oh so stealthy quiet USD Royal Aqua Master. It is not just more quiet because the bubbles exhaust behind you but it is in fact quieter because the exhaust gently flows from the can through several holes that break up the large bubbles reducing the explosions of bubbles. It is amazinghow startled critters are when they realize a normally noisy scuba diver is face to face with them before they realized you were so close. Quiet is a good thing. N

Hush Nemrod, double hoses are getting expensive as it is, I don't need more folks buying RAMs out from under me. :)

All kidding aside, if you really want to get the bubbles out of your face, one of the old double hoses ungraded with new parts is as good as it gets.

Welcome to the board.

Ccrs work pretty good too.

Maybe you should trim your hood seal? That's free!

Aqualung Mistral is a new, not vintage, dual hose regulator.

LeisurePro has (had) them... Aqualung Mistral Regulator from LeisurePro.com

Sometimes you can find them still at the LDS...

Never dove one but from all accounts I hear, they were no too hot and an upgraded vintage reg preforms better and is cheaper if your williing to rebuild it yourself.

A rebreather is a great way to go but the cost is a little more......one of these days I may just have to get one.
