Aloha,

I am so very sorry to hear about the huge oil mess in the Gulf of Mexico. I now live in Hawaii but spent 10 years teaching scuba in the Caribbean during the 80's and 90's. I am wondering how the Cayman Islands is preparing for the potential oil slicks associated with the spill. I really don't watch much TV but my friend in Biloxi, MS contacted me and is telling me the TV news is not even coming close to telling the whole story of the oil coming ashore where he is.

Maybe we need to keep a watch for the oil here on SB if it hasn't hit you yet and update people so we can all work at solving the problem before it gets really bad. I hope your islands are spared!

I wish you all the best in dealing with this problem. I really liked the hay idea that the good ol' boys from Louisiana came up with.

Well,I am no specialist in ocean currents and the likes, but geographically there are a whole lot of other place that would be affected before us such as Cuba, Florida & the Bahamas, but that is just speculation on my part. Between us and the gulf there is Cuba which acts as a massive barrier.

Only time will tell I guess. I did find this current map from a quick Google search. If its accurate, I cant see any oil coming here.

I just took a good look at the map and that's good news for you guys. I didn't realize Cuba kind of blocks you and most of the rest of the Caribbean as well! Phew!!
