I bought my Suunto D5 used--it seemed to have been used sparingly, and didn't have that many dives logged on it when I purchased it. Unfortunately, the battery life on it has been abysmal; it can hold a charge for only about six hours, and doing three dives on it is risky.

Does anyone have experience with replacing a Suunto battery? I'm wondering whether it's worth trying, or whether I should just put that money towards a new computer. All advice appreciated--thank you!

If you have a place that can change the battery near you then just change the battery as it wont be overly expensive. But if you have to ship it off to be done then your gonna need to cost that all up and take that in to account.

It is not worth replacing the battery. I could not.
Just sell the best option.
The watch case is disassembled with the condition of a complete replacement of the case.

I don't know California geography, but from Suunto support;

Perhaps one of these is within reasonable distance from you:

A new battery in it will not solve your problem. I have my second D5, first one stopped working under water in less than 2 years with the words: fatal system error, contact your Suunto dealer. Then I got a new one under warrantee.
So far so good, it is working. But BOTH show in the morning 10 or 11 hours battery time left, divetime-battery time. And always, really always after 3 dives I get a low battery warning. I never use this computer in cold water as the strap does not fit my drysuit, I only use it on holidays in warm water.

So no, you will not solve this issue with a battery replacement. This is just a crap thing from Suunto.

Also the aftersales is not that good. Yes, I got a new computer under warrenty, but and that is a really big but: they just swapped the strap, so I got the used strap back. That is just the minor problem, but the bigger problem is that I sent it to them WITH screen protector and I got one back WITHOUT. So I am using it now without.
But how cheap can you be as such a big company. I haven't seen this with Shearwater or Olympus for example.

I did not buy the computer, I won it and I was really happy because I won it. It would be a watch for holidays too. But on my second holiday I got that fatal system error so I did not had anything anymore and you need to recharge it before the end of the day, so also then no watch.
