that if a shark ever stops swimming, it will drown and die? heard this awhile back..just wondering if it were true

Can't be true. Nurse and Sand Sharks are often found resting quietly under ledges for hours on end.

Sharks are like Marines ...they adapt and overcome.

Yes, there are some sharks that must keep water flowing over their gills by swimming. Others like the nurse or horn shark can pump water over their gills. Others are very terrestrial and usually referred to as lawyers (just teasing folks).

Sand tiger sharks are real weird. They gulp air and use that for buoyancy, much like physostomous fish lines. It's a neat example of convergent evolution.

wow sharks are really neat creatures!!!!

Most sharks are known to ram ventilate, which requires constant flow of water over the gills. Others, like the bamboo shark, use suction ventilation, which allows them to stay motionless and still ventilate. Its really interesting to compare the two (I just finished a research project on bonnetheads and bamboos last semester):D
