Is diving in Vietnam as bad as I have read?

Hi

I am planning to visit Vietnam next summer (july/aug 05) and as a holiday diver would like to get in at least 4 days of diving.

I have searched the web and found the relevant PADI sites in Vietnam that look good, whale island looks nice.

However I have also found reports that talk about no coral, no fish etc.

I have did my advanced PADI at Koh Tao and loved it (saw whale shark ) then did some more diving in Croatia (great wrecks but no real coral or fish).

Bascially will the diving in Vietnam be worth doing? I woud have given croatia a miss if it had not been for the great wrecks.

Any advice would be great.

I was in Nha Trang 2 months ago. Yeah, the diving is poor. That's very true but I still had fun. I did see some frog fish and a huge moray. I wouldnt' go there to dive but while you're there, it's worht a dip in the water. I dived with Coco's. Small shop with friendly and professional staff.

Never been but I hear Nha Trang is supposed to be the best place for diving in Vietnam. In addition to Coco's you can check out Rainbow Divers. I think they operate at a place called Anamandara Resort which looks upscale. Good luck.

Same as above, not a destination but might as well get there if you're in Nha Trang. I did the advanced class with blue divers and they were great.
