Does Bonaire live up to it's reputation? Anyone have any good photos to prove it?

Is Bonaire the Best? dunno. I've been there twice and enjoyed the ease of diving and the reef life both times. As for photos, I've taken gobs while there. All 4 of the photos I've submitted to the gallery were taken there. Take a look. I don't think they prove anything except the fact I am an amateur photographer! :D

It depends on what type of diving you are looking for. If you're looking for lots of deep wrecks then I would say 'no'. If you're looking for very easy, relaxing, diving with no need to go deep, then I would say 'yes'.

You can stay between 35 and 65 feet and never get bored if you're looking for fish, colors and coral.

There is one very nice wreck dive on the Leeward side of the island at 90fsw.

PS Do a search for 'Bonaire' in the 'photography forum' and you will find lots of photos. :)

The Best is a relative term.

As far as shore diving - ease of diving and independence its awfully close

As far as seeing big sharks - its not too good. I think all the financial stuff goes on in the Caymans.

First off, are you a professional photographer? Those pics are amazing. What type of camera and housing do you use? That really inspires me to pick Bonaire, tons of wildlife and reef. Do you know what the shark population is like ie reefs, bulls, tigers, hammerheads etc? Can you shore dive from that hotel and how was the diving there? Thanks again those pics blew my mind. WOW!!!

Shark population is pretty slim on the leeward side. People say they spot a few every now and then on the windward side.

I was there 2 years ago and did some free diving/snorkeling ( I didn't have my Cert yet) and it was amazing. Nice reefs with a wall that drops to 100+ feet about 100-200 yards off the beach.

The current issue of SCUBA Diving magazine has a ranking on best shore diving spots, and Bonaire rates #1 (and has been #1 for the last 12 years).

The people are amazingly nice, and I plan on going back next year now that I'm certified.
