Is anyone Ice diving this winter in USA or Canada? I would love to join a group if anyone is doing it in the upper East Coast or Upper Mid-west areas.

Cheers -

CS

Hmm. I'd like to but it depends on the ice and whether or not there is enough interest in heading somewhere that puts on a good dive with the proper support. CT is a bit far for me.

Jim,

Do you get to do it in PA? Here in southern Maine adequate ice has been hit or miss lately.

Yes! We dive lake George in upstate NY twice each winter- once with the Brooklyn Kings County Divers crew and one with the Bronx folks from Captain Mike's City Island shop.... It's a great trip. Usually 18 inches of black ice and great vis.

i probably will do another ice course /dive this year ......... any previous students dive for free .....

Each year we schedule a trip up to upstate New York, weather permitting of course, to do some ice diving. Last year we had several good days of snow and ice, and ended up having 2 feet of snow and 34 inches of ice. We made several dives in Chazy Lake and had a blast. This coming March (first weekend 6th-8th) we will be headed back up but will be diving Lake Champlain (weather permitting). Would you mind roughing out the procedure for those interested? I will only do tethered (with a good tender) and a suited up rescue diver on hand.

All ice diving standards require tethered diving - there is no non-tethered option. The rescue diver is separately tethered.

There is a te
How the tethers are used varies- they can be split lines or single line - up to three divers per line.

The triangle ice cut is standard, 15-20 min dive times are pretty standard. There is a lot of debate about the type of rope to use so that will yield some controversy.

Always recommend using LOW pressure tanks in ice diving - remember Gay-Lussacs second law.
