Is adding 12-24 a good idea?

These were all taken with the 12-24mm on my trip to Roatan last year.

Warren, nice shots! I have a 12-24 Tokina, but have not housed my camera yet. What other lenses did you use in Roatan? I am thinking my third lens will be a 60mm, and my main surface lens is an 18-200 Nikkor.

Thanks Peter. I had with me the 60mm macro lens as well. If I were to only have two lenses down south, it would be the 12-24mm and 60mm macro, but I do carry 5 lenses with me. 10.5mm and 12-24mm for wide angle, 60mm and 105mm macro plus closeup diopters to allow greater than 1:1 macro, and an 18-70mm for topside use.

Attached are two of the first several shots I took with my new D-200 in a Sea and Sea housing with the Nikkor 12-24 while in Key Largo on the U.S.S. Duane in January. Vis wasn't that great, but this lens allowed me the latitude to get the right distance for the shot.

So far, I'm very pleased with the lens! And..., as mentioned in previous posts, it's a good topside lens too.

I really don't think you can go wrong with the 12-24.

Good luck!

12-24 is my Sea Lion and Turtle lens. I just can't get close enough to use my 10.5 on the doggies. And having the zoom gives me the flexibility to choose a group shot or a solo pup.

Topside, its the lens I use most. I shoot a few thousand images every month, and most of them are with my 12-24 - especially the landscapes and inside family stuff.

I have a 60mm, 105mm, 10.5mm, 18-70mm and the 12-24. The 12-24 is by far my fav lens.
