I was attracted to the Inmarsat device because (at least in the US) it is several hundred less to purchase. It also looks like there is a satellite right over Raja Ampat so the coverage should be pretty awesome there. In Toronto is it a big thing to drive to Buffalo NY to get stuff that has huge markup (or less discount) in Canada?

I think either Inmarsat or Iridium will be good for Raja Ampat.

Many people from Toronto used to drive to Buffalo to buy things...when the exchange rate was much more favourable to us. It no longer is, so oftentimes, after exchange rate, there's not a lot of difference in price. And if we get dinged at the border for duties and taxes, that makes US-bought items even more expensive than purchasing them in Canada.

Do you remember people from Vancouver crossing over to Seattle (I think it's Seattle but maybe just across the border) to buy milk, eggs and gas? I don't think they do that anymore.

I miss the days when CAD$1 = USD$1.
