Hello Everyone,
My name is Rick and I just signed on today. My girlfriend and I are instructors from Montreal Canada and we are going to be travelling to Fiji in July. We have heard a few things about diving there and we are now trying to make plans. As we stand now we are interested in Kadavu at 'Matana' and Viti Levu at 'Wananavu' (Kai Tiki). Does any one have any suggestions for us.
One concern we have is that we heard the tank fills are under 3000 and the DMs require all groups to surface at the same time and usually on air profiles etc. Is this true.
Where should we go to get the best treatment as experienced divers.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Rick

It wasn't my experience that we were constrained to dive and surface as a group... however our situation might have be out of the norm.

I would definitely recommend Garden Isle Resort on Taveuni for diving Rainbow Reef and the Great White Wall. They have an excellent dive shop/fill station with 3 compressors and run a nitrox stik so you can dive all the nitrox you want.

The other resorts we visited only had air but that was never a problem with the profiles we were diving. Most of my dives were 70 minutes on an AL80.

You can find my daily blog of our Fiji trip here.

Welcome!! Any question you have, you can probably find a post about it in the archives, or just ask away and someone will steer you to an answer.

Hi Rick,

Rick Tomalty:
Viti Levu at 'Wananavu' (Kai Tiki). [...] One concern we have is that we heard the tank fills are under 3000 and the DMs require all groups to surface at the same time and usually on air profiles etc.

This wasn't my experience with Kai Viti divers at Wananavu. While, now that I think of it, the fills were just a little shy of 3000, the dive profiles were not tied to the quickest breather. We had a guy on our trip that was going through a full tank in about 20 minutes (!) but most of my dives were in the 60 minute timeframe.

Good luck -- Fiji was some of the best diving my family and I have done!

Welcome to the board. I can not help you with Fiji because I have not been there. As soon as I go there I will give you some feedback.
