Disagree with that. Id encourage people to train under as many different agencies as possible - each does have its differences and pros/cons. It broadens the knowledge and experience base.
i agree, however if youre a ssi nitrox and tdi wreck and decide to become a padi-pro, you will have to do a crossover

i believe they make you symbolically burn your 'other agency' cards on a full moon while chanting ;)

Well, I can't imagine why someone would actually want to do this, but PADI will recognize both the nitrox and the wreck certs, not that it matters since neither is required to become an instructor.

Wouldn't surprise me. I think there's also a blood sacrifice involved and you have to dance naked.

but dont you need your 'master scuba diver' cert before they let you go down that DM dark track??

of course i could just phone hubby and ask but its more fun getting 'the look' from you guys ;)

i hope youre giving me the look there Walter :D

Angie... will you be doing the course in Canberra or doing a roadtrip?

You dont need master scuba diving or anything.

Depending on your other agencies grade you can either enter padi on a DM course, an AI course on in some cases, straight at IDC/IE level.

In theory i could have entered at AI level with PADI but i chose to do divemaster to see how PADI do things - i hold no padi qualification lower than dive master. Ive got training from 3 agencies and not found it a problem and had no end of positives from experiencing them all.

"Master scuba diver" is the badge collector thing you have to pay a fair some of money for while doing no extra diving. Its simply lots of specialities plastered on top of the course up to rescue. In theory designed for people that dont want to be become dive masters but generally just want to be divers. In reality, its usually badge collectors who pay the extra $40 or whatever it is for the card.

basically you learn from an instructor, not an agancy. Agancies recognize certs from other agancies world wide. Find an istructor that you like and trust. Don't get hungup on whitch agancie will be issuing the card.
