Hello people, I am new to this forum and come seeking enlightenment. I have finally worked my photographic way out of the point and shoot cameras(although I think I did some nice work with my sealife D300 before it inevitably got too confining) , and I recently invested in a c5050 with the Ikelite housing. (I probably got the last ones out there, but that is another issue) Now I have to catch my breath, try to learn all that the c5050 has to teach me(ye gods!) and then obtain strobes for it. The obvious choice is a pair of Ikelite strobes, but the cash is starting to constrict, and I was wondering if a D50 pair would be an intelligent choice? Or, I could get the D50 now and try to pair it with a D125 later? I think I will be going with ultralite arms, also, which just makes matters worse, of course. I am an occasional diver, which translates into a couple of trips to warm water a year from my home up in the frozen northland(minnesota), and this is my 3rd year of underwater photography. Any advice will be welcomed.

Hello Woodman,
welcome (Scub)aBoard! :balloon

Welcome to the board!
You will find lots of info in the Oly section. There are quite a few great Oly photographers on this board. I use a Nikon but I don't think you can go wrong with the 125s....it's only money!

Welcome to the board. Maybe you will get a better response it you make you post within the Underwater Art & Photography Forum. Good luck.

Moved from Introductions & Greets forum.

The best advice I can give you is to learn the camera first before you add a strobe(s).

You can get some amazing shots with only the internal flash of the C-5050. Take at look at any of Calypsonicks photos, he doesn't use external strobes.

O.k., I am speaking from some experience here. I have an Oly 5050 with an Ike housing. I started out with a single ds-50. Moved to a ds-50 and ds-125 and now have dual ds-125s. Dee is correct that you can good photos with the internal flash alone. But if I were in your situation, I would go for a single ds-125. The ds-125 is a powerful strobe. You can learn your new system without having to worry about two strobes and yet you will get good coverage with the strobe. You can get some excellent lighting with a single strobe alone (and for some applications, a single strobe might even be easier). Later on, you can add a second ds-125. If you decide to upgrade, you can take the ds-125s with you.
