I have been considering the purchase of an inexpensive underwater camera over the next few months. Nothing fancy. Just something to take on the dive to take a few pictures whenever I come accross something interesting. Therefore, I really don't want anything too big and bulky.

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with the Intova cameras, especially the Intova IC12 Digital Sports camera.

Intova IC12 Digital Sports camera with Waterproof Housing | Intova

Appears to be a consideration, especially for the price (anywhere from $200.00 to $270.00 depending on the retailer).

Does anyone have any opinions or any other suggestions? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

hi I have an Intova ic-10 and it takes really good photos for the price of it you can see what of takens by clicking on photo list.

I too have the Intova IC-10 and have been amazed at the quality compared to the price. My pics are not as good a Shayne's yet, but I am getting there. I have been adding all the bells and whistles to mine over time. I am waiting for a good day to get some more shots with the strobe attached.
I have had mine for over a year now, and it is still going like a champ. The only downside I have found is, A it eats up batteries, (I think all cameras do) and B it has a slow shutter speed. You have to be really stationary to get good clear shots. But again that's true of most cameras.
Good luck.

I had (and still have) an Intova IC-600. The thing chews through batteries, so you'd be better off with NiMh rechargeables if you go this route. I've since bought a GoPro HD Hero - slightly more expensive, but with a lot more plusses than minuses. The housing is likewise rated to 180 feet. It takes HD video, as opposed to what my Intova could take. Batteries can last up to two hours of continuous recording. I've slapped a 16GB SD card in it so I have no problem recording and recording and recording. I can get spare batteries just in case so in between dives, I can freshen up a set.

The only drawback of the GoPro is that it has an underwater blur problem which will necessitate either a DIY fox or a 3rd party solution. I opted to go with the lens being sold by underwaterhero (on this board) Costs around 30 euros, inclusive of shipping. There are other alternatives out there for a fix, and I think that if you asked most GoPro owners, they'd have no regrets regarding the purchase.

I just bought a Intova IC-12 and have no regrets. This little camera paired with the ISS-4000 strobe really takes good pick. I am still trying to master this little baby. You can see the pictures I have taken so far and still learning to find the optimal setting for U/W photography.

The IC-12 has a lithium rechargeable battery that will last you 1 full dive if using the strobe or 2 dives if using the red lens without strobe. I got an extra battery for $21USD to be safe but only once I had to switch batteries between tanks. Good luck making a choice, I am sorry it would be the best choice for you.

Here you can seen some of my pictures.
