O-ring once bubbled...
Paying someone to short-rope your arse up the mountain or guide you down to the Doria is not the same as having the intelligence, skills, and experience to pull it off alone and reap the satisfaction that comes from a challenging accomplishment.

I agree 100%.

I think it sucks. Here's why. It detracts from the mystique of reaching the pinnacle of one's sport. Paying someone to short-rope your arse up the mountain or guide you down to the Doria is not the same as having the intelligence, skills, and experience to pull it off alone and reap the satisfaction that comes from a challenging accomplishment.

Well, it depends. I'm not sure it detracts from anything. Just 'cause some moron chose to dish out a bunch of bucks to get to do it, doesn't mean they reached the pinnicle. We know it, and they know it. If you go and pull it off with your intelligence, skills and experience, does the fact that someone paid their way there detract from the personal accomplishment? No. Why? 'Cause you know they didn't reach the pinnicle, and you did.

Ok... perhaps someone on the street might not see the difference, but hey... You're shooting to conquer a challenge for yourself, not for the masses that won't understand anyway...

It comes down to the attitude of "who cares what others think"...
Don't let the posers effect aspirations.

But it would bother me if I had built up a lifetime of experience to conquer everest and I ran into Ms. Warbucks on the way down with a team of sherpas humping her satellite phones and laptops up with her. I think I would want them all to fall into a big crevasse.
