I don't have an external strobe and normally I shoot with ambient light as I didn't like the look of the pics with the internal flash when I first started. For night dives I have usually taken pictures while my (amazing and favourite) dive buddy aimed his torch at said creature. Last night I was playing around with the internal strobe on my camera (G16, Fantasea housing + diffuser) for a something different. I realised part of the reason I don't like them as much is that the colour is really warm, especially compared to torch light!

Does anyone know what the temperature of internal flashes is (generally, I guess they'd all be different) compared to external strobes? I think I much prefer the whiter light.

In the scheme of things it probably doesn't really matter - but now I'm just curious! :)

Thanks!

My Ikelite DS-161 says 4800K temperature.

If you shoot RAW you can match WB to strobe temp, and/or adjust in post without any image loss.

Honestly though, just don't use the internal strobe. Probably the worst thing you can do with an underwater camera (other than flood it maybe ;-) )

hahaha thanks ;)

erm actually that just got me thinking - I do shoot in RAW and edit later - I think my white balance is set to auto? is that what people generally do if they plan to edit later? or do you still set a custom WB?
