I just don't log dives
Thought this might be a good time to post a genral reminder to everyone about dive insurance (such as DAN) A buddy of mine just had a mild DCS hit and his bills were over 3K. That would be tough if he did not have the secondary insurance, my regular insurance excludes diving injuries. My last hit was over 10K and that was many years ago. For $100.00 a year with the top level it is worth it for those unplanned things that happen in life.

yup...

strangely enough, i just renewed by DAN membership and insurance

I read in another thread here that DAN doesn't cover incidents within a 50 mile radius of your home????
Can someone confirm that?

Thanks,
Jason

OK, I answered my own question searching the DAN website. The 50 mile radius is for non-diving accident insurance available through the preferred plan. As far as I can tell, for diving accidents you're covered regardless of where it happens.

Sorry for any confusion. :)

There was a editors letter/response in the most recent Alert Diver (free with DAN membership) regarding this issue as to why people werent sure about taking up the insurance. I have to get around to renewing for this year, got an email reminder in december, but didnt, just got the mailed version, so today i went and did that, upgraded to the prefered plan from the master one.

For peace of mind alone, it is worth getting or renewing. I didn't wait until my Valencia & Buckley one had lapsed before starting the DAN one. I think DAN is much better and covers a wider area - MY opinion. I did not renew the Valencia & Buckley gone November but I will renew DAN's in May. And $100 is not going to break the bank!! :)

Just one more voice saying "what they said".

I have the DAN insurance, and it came in real handy a few months ago.

Get it, or something like it.

Mike
