Insurable depth limit - 100'

I am just dealing with the delights of being self employed and medical insurance ranks WAY up there as the biggest PITA.

We had an interesting discussion with the Humana rep this morning where we were told that scuba is covered ONLY if you do not dive deeper than 100'. As this is not anyone's rec diving limit (that I am aware of) this seems like a "nice round number".

Has anyone else dealt with this issue?

100 feet, 30 meters, that's the depth limit you're certified to by PADI after taking the AOW class. Add another 10 meters to that if you take the deep speciality class afterwards.

You could try DAN, me thinks they might offer insurance to the 40 meter mark.

Most insurance companies look at that as the difference between rec and pro/tech diving, irregardless of certifying agency or certifications. As long as you stay above the 100ft mark you are not considered that much of a risk by them.

My buddy had to go through the same thing at his work for insurance. The other big thing is skydiving.....insurance just loves that!

Dan's diver accident insurance is limited to 130ft only for the standard plan. The Master and Preferred plans have no max planned depth limit. http://www.diversalertnetwork.com/insurance/compare.asp It's not medical insurance, but might fill the gap in your existing policy, covering accidents at depth that your health insurance would not.
