Since the old thread was highjacked here is the new thread. An update as well with new pictures on facebook account under my name, Also new detials on business.
Its time for new blood in our operation in Puerto Rico. Need a new dm or instructor to carry the business forward. Will finance and help you get started. Asking $50,000 for the business, gear etc. All pay will be based on commission or partnership participation. Advantage, you get to own all or a piece in the end. Cheap place to live and great diving on the Parguera Guanica Wall. Guanica 00653 on google maps to see more about the place. Finishing contract with major hotel in the area on May 2. Then its up to you

Scuba diving and excursions business:
33’ Custom Dive/Excursions boat with single diesel. Full dive gear from Mares (including dive computers), tanks, weights, masks/snorkel, fins, etc. Complete and ready for a new owner. Currently offering diving, snorkeling, beach cruise, and sunset cruise. $50,000 Also, there is a 27’ Catamaran sailboat involved in the business with a different owner that can be purchased in addition to business stated above. 787-424-4557 or captain.geoff@hotmail.com

NO NEED TO APPLY if you are looking for a regular job in the industry have plenty of guys here for that. 7874244557 captain.geoff@hotmail.com

6 Mares BCs, regulators(with dive computer built in on each), weights, 16 tanks, weight belts, approximate 35 fins with masks, and basically everything you need to run a dive business. All gear was bought Dec 2009 so its about 1 ½ years old.

Boat: 6068 Turbo 6.8l John Deere Marine Diesel well maintained. Cruise 15 knots. Radar, GPS and VHF. Liferaft. Good condition for a work boat. Painted with Easypoxxy Petit roll and tip so very easy to put on new coat for fresh look each year. Boat was built for the U.S. Navy by Willard Marine as a personnel carrier and certified for 24 passengers.

Financials are certifiable. Gross was around $75,000 last year with operating profits about 2/3 of that amount. I have tax statements and bank statements for review but will withhold them for security reasons until persons have made the commitment to travel here to review the business.

Lastly, the beauty here is the price and location. $50,000 won’t buy a dive boat let alone this also here in Guanica the expenses are almost nothing. No dockage expense and you can have a selection of rentals office and home for under $500 per month including utilities.

Many of you have written to me about marketing/customers, etc. Let me make sure its clear. We finished a contract on May 3 that was supposed to terminate on Jan 1, 2010 and a decision was made not to renew. Many asked if they could renew the contract and the answer is yes but I strongly recommend that you do not and here is why. Lets say that you do your job and have a group of 8 divers for April 15, 2011 for 6 days. Good for you, right! Not so fast, the hotel calls and has two snorkelers for April 17 and you must take them or you loose the contract! If you do the job well the main hotels and all the other little guesthouses will send you business for free. In addition, you can advertise them as packages. One contract with one hotel and you are married no way to go especially in this economy. We did $75,000 through one hotel and I figure we could have easily done $100,000 freelancing. My recommendation is that you stay independent and work your butt off and build the business on your own with the help of others. This way, its always yours. A website and a visit to groups in the states get your 50 groups. Do 10 months in Guanica and 1 month in Culebra Islands and 1 month in Desecheo Island that way to may get some of the groups to go with you for your serious special trips at those two months. I suggest Novem – July here in Guanica at the very least as it has the best consistent diving.

Also lots of questions about what we are and why we are. We are a dive operation period, no shop no sales no training except for an occasional open water referral. We are the guys with the boat, crew, coordinates etc. Very rare in PR and other places as well. Most dive shops here have no boat. Good for you because you can be their dive operations arm. Furthermore, you can be anywhere they want you. If scubadogs wants two weeks at desecheo island then just set the autopilot and go, easy. See you guys there. There are plenty of dive shops, trust me. If you want to open one and pay someone to stand their 10 hours per day knock yourself out. But we specialize in actually going diving. The two largest are by far Scubadogs and Casa del buzo. They do great jobs training and even train instructors. I suggest you make a deal with them, Scubadogs even has an indoor pool and they will let you take them diving once per month perhaps. Good people and happy to make introduction. Why don’t I do this myself? It was never my intention to be in the dive business only to help a friend. Happy to help a new friend (you) to have your own business if you want it badly enough.

In the end you can do anything you wish.

One interested party said asked a great question “why don’t the dive shops buy their own boat and do there own dive operation”? Here is the answer because the boat and equipment will never work! I know there are a few former dive shop owners laughing and shaking their heads in agreement. After 20 plus years here is a guaranteed fact: If you have a boat that sits in salt water and use it less than 100 days per year you may as well set fire to it because it will never work! You need to be using a boat in saltwater for 200 days a year to get the good and keep it working properly. Think of diesels like horses they are only any good if ridden constantly. Back to our dive shop owner. Works his/her butt off all week teaching classes and selling what they can. That’s 7am – 5pm quick dinner and classes 6-?. Saturday morn 5:30am runs to the mooring to grab the boat to finish the open water and guess what won’t start. Do I hear an amen from anyone. We missed NOT ONE SINGLE DAY of activities due to mechanical malfunction in 1 year 5 months and two days and that’s unheard off. Why is that, we specialize and all our time is focused on getting divers and taking care of our equipment. Running a boat 200 days a year is much easier to keep up with the little details. I suggest you stay the course. And for the one person out there that admitted that you have no experience with diesel engines do not worry I can teach in a weekend everything you will need to know.

Hope to hear from you.

NOTICE OF INCREASE IN ASKING PRICE
I’ve decided to go ahead and add an autopilot to the vessel effective immediately. The brand will either be a COMNAV 1420 or a competitive product. Simple and necessary for shorthanded operations and long trips (Culebra, Vieques and Deschecheo). Saves an employee per year which will be far less than the cost of the pilot. I expect that the pilot will cost between $3,000 - $4,000 installed and I will immediately increase the sales price of the business by the amount. I think that it’s a good addition to the business.

Finished painting topsides with Westmarine easypoxy. White on the hull and topsides and offwhite on the nonskid/floor. This is $200 per gallon on island including application. Also one months of time. Starting September 17, 2010 I will impose a price increase of $2,500. Also plan a haulout in September with painting bottom and sides and will increase price another $2,500 when completed. Therefore, by around October 15, 2010 I expect to add $5,000 to the price. If you buy now or make a $10,000 deposit then I will not add these fees and will agree to help supervise the haulout in September. If you feel more comfortable the $10,000 can be put in escrow at a law firm of your choosing.

NOTICE OF INCREASE IN ASKING PRICE II and WEBSITES
We have added the websites based on demand. The main website Home also Home Page and Home With all this the painting and more I have increase the cost of this business alone to $60,000 (an increase of $10,000). A minimum of $20,000 down. Also the owner of the catamaran has agreed to market the business together at $100,000 with $50,000 down minimum.

All we need is the right dm/instructor or groups of dms and instructors who really want to run their own show and settle down. I know its fun new country and new job every 6 months to a year but.... All your hard work has gone into building someone else a better business its high time you consider doing it for yourself. Happy to help in any way I can. Call or e-mail.
