Super cheap way to enjoy Roatan.

We just booked $231.00 airfare from ORD to Roatan for travel in August. Granted we travel 9 hours on the way down with 3 stops in 3 different countries (Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras) and almost 11 hours home with 4 stops, but not much different travel time and at way less than half the price of our last Bonaire airfare.

Flying TACA and we booked thru cheaptickets for these rates which I initially found on kayak. Not sure when this "special" ends.

Yeah, lots of flying, but at this price, might be our only chance to dive Roatan. TACA has pretty liberal luggage restrictions to boot.

Just checking on places to stay and dive shops. Life is good.

Looking for cheap accommodations? Stay on the West End. Dive with Coconut Tree Divers or Native Sons. CTD dives are $35ea. - $30 if you book 10 or more. Both places also have affiliated lodging and there's a couple dozen other options, both cheaper and more expensive. $20 cab ride from the airport max. (negotiate!!) and you can walk around all week to the restaurants, stores and markets. You don't want to drive there anyway, even if someone hits you, by the time the authorities arrive, it will be your fault. A Divers guide to Roatan has lots of options.

Make sure you take your essentials as carry on, the don't call is Take A Chance Airlines for nothing.

If there are plane changes in all (or some) of those stops, I would carry on all of the essentials that I can. Unfortunately, Taca only allows 10 kilos for a carryon without charge, and they WILL weigh it.

I was looking through Expedia last night and found $236 from Chicago, layover in Atlanta, then direct to Roatan. Only one layover. I also saw the 3 layover option for $5 less, but I'm a big spender :P

It appears there are great deals to be had in the summer. We booked a RT from Charlotte, NC to Belize for $334 and it's a non-stop. And we are staying at Turneffe Island Resort for less than half of what they charged last year.

Great time to travel if you have the funds!

I just bought RT Boston -> San Pedro Sula for $322, 1 stop. (Heading for Utila from there.)

Just noticed some great fares on Continental--July and August are giving rates at 200-$250 out of ORD and TPA. This is through IAH (Houston) and round-trip through to BZE (Belize) or SAP (San Pedro Sula)

For those of you who want to travel multi-city--fly to Belize City, for example, and hit the Cayes, then travel down to the Bay Islands (via bus and boat) and then fly out of SAP, the price is still insanely low and below $300.
