I agree with Ryan,

I have a similar setup with my S40. The setup works great. See attached pic.

Scubajunkee, what base are you using? Is that the ULCS base and grip? How is your camera attached to it? By one screw? I really wanted to go wit hthe ULCS grip, but was told that Canon housing with the Inon mount base had a tendency to swivel as it was only secured by 1 screw with the ULCS base.

edit: now that the D-2000 W is out, maybe you can find some deals on the older standard D-2000.

What is the advantage of the newer "W" for this set up?

I must get a strobe very soon for a trip I am taking, and I have very little experience nor am I fluent with the lingo. But the Inon D-2000 rig that ScubaJunkie posted looked good! I see I need to get that adaptor. But what about the the tray and arm? The look look good; I like the soft grip. There is one question posted about the stability of it.

What I need to know are brand names for what ScubaJunkie posted and then, I guess, to contact a dealer. ! I need to get the info necessary to purchase all that I need for the strobe on this housing.

Thanks, as always, for your kind help!

The W model adds the option to connect the strobe by electronic TTL (Nikonos plug). This really only applicable to DSLR cameras. I believe that is the only change from the original D-2000 which is controlled by an optical TTL connection for most point n shoot cameras that have preflash. You can check the inonamerica website. You might want to email Ryan at www.reefphotovideo.com (email: ryan@reefphotovideo.com) as he sells Inon products and should be able to help you pick a right products in time for your trip. Although I have never dealt with him personally, he seems to get a lot positive feedback from SB'ers who have purchased from him and who have only positive things to say about him and his service.

Hi All-

Yes, this package can be configured with the DC50 housing via this mount base:

The package is configured here:
Click here for the listing in our store. You'll have to choose the housing you are using from the drop down list.

The mount base does not swivel on the tray if attached properly, via one of two ways. The back of the mount base can be slid up against the lip on the digital tray w/ the hardware we supply. This is a 1-screw mount, and it doesn't rotate. I like this becasue it can be disassembled without tools.

We can also supply hardware that mounts the mount base to the digital tray via 2 screws, which may be more secure. I don't have these screws w/ t-knobs, so they have to be tightened w/ an allen wrench.

Pakman is correct, the difference between these two strobes is only the addition of the electrical sync connection. The two flashes will be sold alongside each other, the D-2000 will not be discontinued. I recommend the D-2000w for anyone who thinks an SLR camera might be in their future, as they'll appreciate alectrical connectivity at that time.

Sorry about digging up an old thread... I didn't notice that until Scubajunkee pointed it out.

ryan, thanks for clarifying on the mounting to the ULCS tray. Wish I knew that before I bought the inon tray/grip for my S70. I really like the ULCS grips and it would have been perfect for mounting a focus/nite light on a second grip.
