I have an older Inon D-2000 (just the optical TTL) and not the newer W model with the Nikonos TTL connection. IF (and that's a big if at the moment) I upgraded to a DSLR, can I still use this strobe with a DSLR setup? I recall that their optical converter costs something like USD250, half the price of the strobe!!!! Or if I bought a newer D-2000W with the Nikonos connection, could I still use the older D-2000 as a slave?

You can use the optical converter w/ a DSLR. If you plan on doing this make sure the housing you get has the right bulkheads. They make one to fit the 5 pin Nikonos bulkhead...not sure about any others.

I don't see any reason why you can't slave your Inon off a newer one....it is fired optically.

actually just checked the inon site and it says their optical converter is only compatible with Nikon DSLR's... yes the d-2000 is optically fired. I think I've seen a setup where the optical cable of the slave d-2000 is attached to the front of the master strobe. but wonder how you deal with that setup is you try to set the strobes up wide apart...
