I currently use the A620, Canon housing and Inon 2000. I can tell I'm on the path for a G9 (or maybe G11 if I wait long enough). I figure I'll get the Ikelite case because I want to be able to add a WA lens. I really like my Inon 2000 strobe. I mostly use it in manual mode. I'm thinking of adding a second strobe right now to my current A620 setup. The question is if I stick with the Inon 2000 for the G9 in an Ike case am I giving up a lot to then not have ttl capability?

Any thoughts? Anyone using the Inon 2000 with the G9 care to share their experiences? Or anyone who says they wouldn't live without ttl?

Not being an expert but if your thinking to get a second strobe couldn't you get the Z240 and hook it via sync cord to the G9 and then run the D2000 in optical sync to the Z240? That is a question as much as a statement.

BTW, I love my D2000 also. One of those things that works as advertized and even better.

I thought the Z240 also needs to use optical sync with the G9. Anyone know?

I really like my 2000 also, that's why I'm trying to stick with it.

G9 has a hot shoe - can't see why you couldn't use a sync cord to a Z240 or D2000W, and optically sync the D2000 (with an Ike housing)...

It's my understanding that the Ikelite Houing's ttl circuitry is not compatable with the Inon's electronics, but check with Inon, Ikelite or a speciality underwater photo store to confirm that before you take my comments as fact.

I use dual z-240's with the G9, however, I use the Patima Housing instead, which in my opinion is a better choice. The Patima Housing comes with a fixed connection for optical cables, which the Ikelite DOES NOT HAVE. Connecting the Inons via optical cable works great. I have one strobe connected directly via on optical cable, then I have the second strobe connected via a slave cable that goes form the connected strobe to the unconnected stroge.

The Patima Housing also comes with two seperate ports, one for closeup and one for wide angle, and they are both pre-threaded for 67m wet lenses.

The Patima Housing is a bit more money than the Ikelite Housing, but it's made of solid aluminum, is rated to 120 meters and is much more compact and easy to completely control with one hand.

I bought my housing at Reef Photo. They're very knowledgable and can answer any questions you may have. Don't hesitate to give them a call for guidance.

Hope that helps.

Hi

The Inon Z240 can be triggered by a custom sync cord sold by Ikelite from an Ikelite housing; however it will only trigger them in manual mode - not TTL. If you want to use TTL with an Ikelite housing currently the only strobs that will allow you to do this are Ikelite. If you are going to optically trigger (which you can do with an Ikelite housing for a G9), the main advantage the Z240 has over the D2000 is that it is a more powerful strobe (and $200 more expensive).

You already use a D2000 in manual mode. How many times have you felt you needed a more powerful strobe? I do mostly macro and close shots and seldom use my strobes at close to full power.
