Does anybody have any info on Innerkip Quarry in Woodstock area? Looking to possibly do one last dive there before it gets too cold.

I prefer to guddle about in Gulliver's Lake, off Highway 6 and Safari Road north of Hamilton; they claim on their website they check the water for contaminants....viz about 15 ft last weekend, temp 74. Couple of platforms, good place to tweak gear in 22 ft of water or less :D

Local scuttlebut is that runoff from nearby farms can do a number on the water quality in Innerkip, but I've never tested the water myself....

Here is the link to their website.

I have dove there a few times but only in May with a group of divers doing there OW dives. I have heard that the algea gets pretty bad as the season goes on so I am not sure what it is like now. Since it is a play frequented by newbies, it gets silted up pretty quick. If there are a lot of people there try to get in before the big groups get in. Lots of stuff to find and good to pratice your nav skills. Lots of time someone will have used some rope to connect all the things down there for the newbies to find.

Welcome to Scubaboard. Good to have you around. Try posting your question in the local sub-forum.

Thanks for the the replies all. After reading through this and other sites about Innerkip I'm not so sure about it anymore.

If you haven't yet, click Forums above and start going thru the list - looking for those of interest to you, especially your local dive club. Always good to try a Search before starting a new thread, tho :search: - click here for Search help, and be careful about posting Threads & Replies before reading the Sticky threads at the tops of most forums. PM me if I can help you around here..

I have had some amazing braille dives at Innerkip in the past...

Hopefully my sarcasm was noted ;)

As mentioned by others, there are planes, busses, cars, boats, etc. to see. You can buy an underwater map (laminated card) from the shop ($5 last time I was there) that gives compass bearings and 'kick distances' between the objects. You can also get air fills at the shop, and they have a snack bar open certain hours.

The vis is generally very poor, but better early and late season when the algae drops off.

If UW navigation is your purpose for diving, or you want a challenge, try it.

If you're looking to get wet and practice other skills, Gulliver's Lake would probably be a better call.

Just my two cents...hope it helps. Cheers!

Would anybody like to do a couple of dives before the end of November at Innerkip Quarry (aka Trout Lake park)?

BTW, Gulliver's Lake Park is closed till May 2011 (Home | Gulliver's Lake Park).

Innerkip is well worth a visit if you live within an hour or two drive.

But the time to go is June. In May, the viz is OK, and the suckers are spawning, which is kind of interesting. It clears up in late May to early June, to the point where, after a few days of good weather, the viz is 15 feet--sometimes even 25 feet.

There are lots of fish: rock bass, smallmouth bass, suckers, pike. There are also several old boats, buses, and cars, and there is a map around with compass bearings and fin kicks that you can use to navigate the bottom.

Then after about the first week of July, the viz starts to drop, and by September, it can be really bad, e.g., 2 feet. It clears up in November, but not as well as the spring. I have never tried diving there later than that.
