I've just recently moved to Woodstock ON and Innerkip is pretty much in my backyard.

How bad is it, polution wise, at this time of year? I've been told to avoid it at all costs in the summer, but after October it's OK.

I've got a friend coming to see me in a couple weekends and I wouldn't mind taking him for a dive. I've never been there myself, but I'd like to see what's down there. That is, unless my hair and teeth will fall out.

Has anyone got some information? Is it clean? Visibility? Do you have to pay?

I was there over the weekend, water temp was 53F, visibility was excellent for Innerkip (about 5 feet). As far as the water, well it didn't get the nicknames innerear or innersludge because it was clean. $6 addmission to the park per person, nothing is open inside the park. Make sure you have a compass or you will just end up going in cirlces, if you download a map from the internet you should be able to find a couple of planes, school buses, cars, boats. The only reason I went was for some OW checkout dives. Good place to practice compass and bouyancy (you don't want to swim along the bottom), just not great conditions.

I was at Innerkip on Saturday (30th) so I guess I'm qualified to answer. Your hair and teeth are probably safe, but you'll want to bring ear drops. Visibility ranged from about 10' to 0, so if you want to see any of the yachts/buses/etc you better have great navigation skills (bring your compass). You'll have to pay $5 each to enter, and the water temperature was 53F. I'd go back again...but if your buddy is used to Cozumel quality visibility then he might be a bit uncomfortable. Hope this helps,

Sean

In my experience, I have found no better vis than about 10 feet. On two occassions I have travelled and found that the vis is bad enough to call the dive completely.

The ice dive was my last straw to the point that I do not attend Innerkip. In the middle of Feb, under 14 inches of ice, the vis was only 10 feet. An ear infection ensued and now I have learned of Gulliver's quarry, Windmill Point, as well Sherkston. In all cases it is well worth the drive into the Welland area....

Dive safe,

dmdoug - Could you give us more info on the quarries that you mentioned in your last post such as location/depth/vis/attractions etc. Thanks in advance

Hey Doug how was the pool yesterday :11ztongue

Unfortunately Windmill, Sherkston and Gullivers are closed for the season. This does leave the Old Train Bridge (old welland canal) in Welland open for shore diving.

Hey Count,

I have come across some info you posted a while ago. In it you talk about the "Old Train Bridge" in Welland. Could you give me more information on this site? My son certified just a year ago and is fairly new to diving, would this be something he could handle?
