Left unchecked I'd be diving with more ornaments than a Christmas tree. I had a feeling I was going a little overboard with this (no pun intended), so thanks for the reality check!
Less is more, dude. Less is more.

You don't really need an SPG to backup an AI computer during any given dive, because if the computer craps out, you're ending the dive at that point irrespective of tank pressure. Backup makes sense, but keep the SPG in your save-a-dive kit and swap it for the computer on the next dive (along with a depth gauge and timing device of course.)

+1 Hit the nail right on the head.
However, if you're hellbent on two gauges and knowing an inline gauge does not currently exist you have two options. First option is: use the second HP port on your reg. If you only have one HP port like some regs do you can use one of these gizmos.

Some will argue that you have introduced failure points or a weakness into your system. If you maintain the O rings in the devices annually you should be fine.
Good luck, dive safe.
DevonDiver, having thought about it, I agree with your CBA of this. No practical gain while adding another single-point failure.
OK, OK, you guys have convinced me! Diving is a new hobby for me, and I have a tendency to go a little gadget crazy whenever I pick up a new hobby.
I'd define an SPG as multiple failure points...
1) HP Port (o-ring fail, damage to thread etc).
2) HP Hose (puncture/burst).
3) HP Hose - SPG connection (o-ring fail, thread damage etc).
4) SPG (blow-out, seized needle).
