My wife is certified, and we actually had an episode of her blacking out under water... I can tell you with full 100% honesty, I was scared to death, I thought I had lost my best friend and the love of my life...
I presented our situation on the Diving Medical portion of this AWESOME site, got some very sound advice from DOC... Contacted DAN, followed their advice, and long story short... Absolutely
ZERO alcohol
with in 18 hours of diving, full hydration, minimum 8 hours of sleep...
Little things like being dehydrated, sleep deprivation, and alcohol use can all lead to blackouts, and a blackout underwater, can easily be fatal/most likely (according to DAN).
If you care about your "friend", you would let them drive drunk, nor would you allow them to dive with this issue, until it is corrected...
