ATLANTIC BEACH
Diver transported to Carteret hospital
U.S. Coast Guard Group Fort Macon and Atlantic Beach rescue personnel responded to a medical emergency aboard a dive boat off the coast Sunday morning.
An unidentified 52-year old Pilot Mountain man was having cardiac problems around 10:40 a.m. following a dive, said Fort Macon Coast Guard public affairs spokesman Lt. j.g. Ron Owens. The Coast Guard launched a 47-foot rescue boat with an Atlantic Beach Fire and Rescue paramedic aboard.
But rough seas prevented rescuers from immediately boarding the Olympus Dive Center boat out of Morehead City safely, so the Coast Guard vessel escorted the dive boat closer to shore, Owens said.
"They transferred a Coast Guardsman and a paramedic when the seas subsided, and they came into Station Fort Macon, where Atlantic Beach rescue personnel were waiting," Owens said.
"The man was drifting in and out of consciousness and was transported to Carteret General Hospital."
The man's condition was not available. (unquote)
Thanks again.
Stay Safe,
Franz
