Hi I would like to know if anyone here is from Sarnia and if you are do you know of a place on the shore of the St. Clair river where there used to be a barge and people used to dive off of it or dive underneeth it if so do you know the name of the barge and what was it called thank you any info would be appreciated.

There used to be a barge that you could dive off off and alot of people used to scuba dive there including my father. I need to know the name of the barge it was at the end of Exmouth St. any info would be greatly appreciated. It is on the St. Clair River Canadian side please help if you can. My father passed away last year and I want to keep his memory alive

Welcome to the neighbourhood. I hope someone can provide you the information you want. It's a lovely idea to keep the memory of your dad alive.

I am not from Sarnia but dive there alot and I don't know the name of the barge but it is there almost directly under the bridge in 25 feet of water. you can access it by getting in at the steps under the bridge and stay shallow and the current will be absolutely screaming there but what a ride. Another way to get to it is to go in at the parking lot beside the Casino (you will see other divers there) and take the mild current towards the bridge stay around 25 feet and you will get there in about 5-8 minutes. To get out you can take the current that is at the barge which flows opposite of the current that got you there and head south now to about 45 to 50 feet but no deeper and ride that current for about 5 minutes and you will run into the wreck of the Monarch or the cable that runs that goes from the wreck to shore. the monarch sits at 55 to 60 feet and you can use the cable to pull yourself out of the river. BTW (if you have not done this dive then do it with someone who has!) The current in this river especially at the barge is faster then any current I have done and you should do this dive with someone expererienced in this river. hope this helps

thank you I knew I was not dreaming. I have been trying to remember how to get there I used to dive with my dad and I remembered it I want to go back now for memories the area you described is where I remembered it being and yes the current is something else again my Dad had to hold me once even though we were tethered just to get me out of the current not far from the bridge and the water was not deep thank you very very very very much

i did that drift dive onto the monarch several times last year and it was a blast. Just make sure you stay close to shore dont miss the monarch.

If you'll need a budy, let me know. I have time during the week and am willing to travel to Sarnia to do the dive with you (I did the dive couple of times).
Maybe we'll be able to arrange more diver and have a nice group. I know couple of people in Wallaceburg who dive frequently, and who you might join for dives in the future.

Inoticed that a lot of this area has been landscaped. Can you still get down to the edge of the river - or do you have to park across the street?

Yes you can but you should better have a truck or SUV because you have to drive over a fairly high curb. There is a "dirt road" that goes off the road almost exactly where the last intersection before the casino
