Lost my trusty GoPro Hero3 in February mounted on a small Sea Life micro tray after spending the weekend diving the Cape Breton and HMCS Saskatchewan. What kills me still is the loss of footage and of course, those suckers aren't free. Last dive heading to bow line to ascend, I go to snap it on to my hip BP d-ring using a bolt snap I had affixed to the tray bottom and I guess I somehow didn't clip it well or it managed to come loose somewhere going up the line and on to the boat (had a good chop hauling out).
I've since bought another and added a backup coil leash which always remains clipped.
You can see it clipped on my hip in my avatar...

one of the other "rules" I was taught when renting. "never, jump/roll into the water with your camera. the force of the splash COULD cause the housing to leak.
