Hi Steve

I am also in St Lucia in June. Weather can be quite rainy and, as I am prone to ear infections, this can be a problem with runoff into the water. PM me on this. Some great dive sites near the Pitons and also some wreck diving. I am a beginner but have done some diving with about 4 dive outfits there.

I don't know about the weather in August, but I do know that it's pretty windy on St. Maarten. We went a couple years ago in March. St. Maarten isn't the best diving there is, but hey, any day of diving is better than none! I would expect pretty good swells and interesting seas. There is no reef on St. Maarten, but they have sunk barges and boats off shore to make homes for sea life and fun dives. I would also expect some current as well. We dove 2 days when we were there and used Dive Safari. I would recommend them. You may also want to think about taking a day trip to Saba for diving if you have the time.

If you like sailing, I would highly recommend doing the 12 Metre Challenge. We had a blast doing this and was a highlight of our trip.

Have a great vacation!

I'm in SXM every August for two weeks. Unlike the winter months and early spring, it is not windy at all. I was there over spring break (April) and I couldn't believe the drastic change in weather! I guess that's why the Heiniken Regatta is in the winter! We've never had a big problem with weather during August. If it rains, it usually lasts for less than a half hour. Last August, I dont recall it raining at all (while we were there)

Dive Safaris is a great company. I don't think you'll go wrong diving with them.

Hi, Just an update. I have just returned from three weeks in St Lucia and the weather was very good apart from two days. So, it can be variable in June but this year we were lucky!

Just returned from a week in St. Maarten. I'm not sure where the people who don't think St. Maarten is a great dive destination have been diving as we thought it was great. Dive Safaris was excellent and the 5 dives we were able to do were quite good to excellent. We did see heaps of marine life, colorful coral formations, a couple of small wrecks, had good to very good vis., warm water, short boat rides, great dive staff, great weather, awesome french cuisine (we stayed on the French side) and incredible beaches. We did a day trip to Saba and where we did two dives. The first dive was great...the second less so. The diving on St. Maarten isn't super deep but I found it to be very good for beginner or intermediate divers (I've only got around 130 dives in my log) and to me it was very engaging and on par with some of the other Caribbean destinations I have been. Luciana at the Simpson bay location was great to deal with as were all the staff at Sea Safaris. Soooo if you like swimming with sea turtles, rays, eels, all of the usual suspects from the reef fish book, being a little pampered by some very enthusiastic dive masters on a clean uncrowded boat with free snacks and soft drinks between dives....St. Maarten and Dive Safaris is worth a try. Of course everyone's experience on any dive is very subjective and personal to them. I just happened to have 5 very good dives off the coast of a very friendly island during one of the best vacations ever. Feel free to PM me for more info. Namaste. :-)
