I dont think i could stand the "Recycle Time About 9 sec with alkaline cells

Be honest: how many times do you fire your flash at full power?

jeraldjcook:
I just bought a Sunpak G-flash for $180. If you use half power or less, on 2 NiMH AA the recycle time is only two seconds. Fullpower about 7-9, depending on your batteries. Really cheap and it works for my needs.

Could you post some pics you took with the flash? or do you have some in your gallery? I am considering one and was just kind of wondering how well it works

The photos in my gallery were using the Sunpak. I would like to say that I'm new to UW photography and that those photos were the first and only time I have had the opportunity to use my underwater housing and strobe. Those were my first attemps at UW photos and I'm happy with how they came out but I basically had no idea what I was doing when I took them. I sure someone with a little more knowledge and skill could have taken better pictures.

One thing I have found out that I did wrong with respects to the pictures in my gallery is that I used the zoom too much. With the exception of the photos of the frog fish and a couple of the eels, I was usually in the 3x to 4x range. Because my subjects were always at different distances from the camera I was always adjusting the output of the strobe and taking the same shot multiple times when fish/eel/etc was cooperating. Basically, don't use my photos as an indication of what the Sunpak is capable of but rather my limited ability as a photographer.
