I am going to Boston for business in a couple of weeks and want to bring my kit and do some diving on the weekend (Sept 22).

I did a search and came up with a charter service headed out to Outer Brewster but it sounds like conditions and viz are not the best there. Any other diving options within a reasonable radius (~1 hr drive) of Boston? I am a fairly new diver but have cold water experience so 40-50 degrees doesn't scare me.

Thanks for any advice!

If the charter is Boston Harbor Diving Company(BHDC), you can't go wrong. Excellent boat, knowledgeable and experienced captains and very close to downtown Boston(actually the marina is in East Boston by the airport). For shore diving, Matt is right...Cape Ann. Do a search on this forum for BHDC and you'll see all the rave reviews and positive dive experiences.

BHDC will ALWAYS pull a rabbit out of the hat when conditions aren't cooperating. You'll have a great time with Jim and Pat.

Thanks for the responses. I am booked on the Outer Brewster charter on 9/22. Can't wait to see what New England diving is like!

BHDC has a great boat also. Plenty of room to stay dry, a ladder you can climb while wearing fins, a flushing toilet, even a hot shower to warm you up between dives.

looks like you are set with a bunch of options!!

you can't go wrong with driving up to Cape Ann and shore diving Folly Cove (North facing) or Pebble Beach (South facing). Folly Cove is an impressive dive and typically decent conditions. if you wanted to drive south of Boston Brant Rock (East Facing) and Sandwich Towne Beach (North facing) are both likely candidates with ample parking, albeit shallower depths. Alternatively getting a charter with Cape Ann Divers or Boston Harbor Diving Company is a GREAT way to go.

www.scuba-newengland.com has lists of dive sites, dive shoppes and charter companies.

if you need more specifics from either shore dive site, search this board, check a local LDS, take a peek at scuda-newengland or even IM me. Happy to share what I know, and who knows you might get be to go out with you...
