While on vacation ask for a checkout dive to familiarize you with a skill review. And practice mentally.
 
A little practical hint that we did teaching Navy diving school was to ensure the diver got their faces wet during the dives. Yes, I mean to take the mask off and make sure Your eyes are wet. We found that if the face is wet and the mask is knocked off the "shock" is not as great as when the diver had dry eyes. Try it, I do it as first things first. It may help. Bill
 
Something else that you can do is to think of as many "worse-case" scenario as possible and think of all the alternatives that you have. Decide on the best to use. If you do this often enough, it should help when something surprise happens as most likely you would have thought of how to handle it.

I have been doing this for the last couple of years when i go for trips and it has serves me quite well.
