Images in Signature

Is it possible to have an image, stored off site of course and linked as a url, appear in a signature? I tried to do that, using image insert as in "

," but it didn't seem to work.

The signature does not allow embeded images mainly to keep posts from being a mile long (I've seen a few sites where people have HUGE photos in their signature line).
