WOW. Sea was like glass and although it was a bit dark and cold at depth, the life was out in abundance. Actual report to follow. Here are the pictures. Haven't "adjusted" them in PS so don't harsh me too much.

It looks like it's laying an egg ribbon. Ross has another similar shot.

Hmm, are you seeing an egg ribbon in Terry's or Ross's pictures? This snail has a giant foot that wraps around and usually nearly covers the shell, so I'm assuming that what we're seeing is the foot. Or is it the burrowing in the sand that suggests egg-laying?

At first I thought it may have been laying eggs, but "upon further review", and after finding this site http://www.pnwscuba.com/critterwatchers/coolcritters.htm
I see that they lay their eggs above the sand. The one Claudette, Jeff and I saw the other night had its foot fully extended. There were egg collars everywhere.

Cool site. After they extrude the egg ribbon, they look like they're hefting a boomerang and ready to throw. I only remember running across the one moon snail in my pic linked above (at Redondo) -- will have to keep an eye out for the eggs.

They're all over the place at Redondo and Marineland right now. They can usually be found where the seapens hang out, away from the reefs.

Yeah me too! There's a ton of them on the way back to the shore from Deadman's (Crescent - Laguna Beach).
