Hopefully, if everything works out, enough people sign up for it, with the class in Fort Lauderdale, on Oct 21, I am starting the DIR fundies course. I have dove with two GUE trained folks, and they are far superior to to anyone I have dove with before, not to say that non-dir people are not good, but these guys are great.

If anyone wants to sign up and take the course with me, that's would be cool. I am going to start practicing this weekend asap.

Advice appreciated

Congratulations! It's a great course, and you'll get a lot out of it.

As far as practice goes -- Buoyancy and trim are the heart of the class. Practice hovering and staying as still as you can, and see if you can stay in trim. I also found it helpful to do some basic skills stuff -- you know, mask flood and clear, mask remove & replace, reg exchange, that sort of thing -- to see if I could keep my depth and trim and composure throughout.

Don't worry about the kicks or the drills. You'll get that from the class.

Another one joins the collective -- hooray!

"Doesn't mean it's a good thing."

haha? sure, have you ever dove with someone trained by gue?

Yes. we are the borg.

Read the textbook once or twice between now and mid-October. It goes over a great deal of material beyond what you'll have time for during the 3 day weekend, and it's a great preparatory foundation.

If you can practice with someone who has already taken the course it may be worth your time.

Have fun, take lots of notes, go with an open mind.

Best,

Doc

PS. Engaging with guys who are negative on your course of action is generally a waste of time. It gets you all escalated and defensive, and makes no difference to them one way or the other. If you want to pursue something, go for it - ignore naysayers. Have fun looking forward to your Fundamentals class! ;)

Good for you, you will see a difference in your diving. Don't worry about what anyone else has to say, 99.9% of the negative comments come from people who have never taken the class.
Since you are already diving with GUE trained divers, you should have no problem getting some good feedback.
Have fun.
