I just discovered this site and wanted to respond to a question regarding under water metal detectors. So here I am.
I have been diving (rarely) since I was 14 years old. I got certified in 1980 through NASDS. I have 47 logged dives (I don't bother logging the lake dives up here as I am usually in the shallows using a metal detector or cleaning up trash from the bottom and seldom get over 20'.)
I don't currently dive in Maine as I am currently too fat to fit in mt wet suit and most of the wild life has been fished out.
Also I got spoiled diving in Florida where I don't need a wet suit!
I am hoping to move south where I hope to update my cert and get more diving in as well as move on to more advanced systems.
