As many of you know, Mr. C was recently sold to new owners, and they are working hard at rebuilding the business on that boat. I was out on them this past Saturday, and I'm really impressed with their passion and drive to improve the boat and offer a premier diving experience in SoCal for a bargain price.

One of the things they want to improve is the food offerings - a bit of a challenge on a smaller boat with a rather cramped galley. So, being a boat owner myself and used to working in a small galley, and a gourmet cook to boot (trained at a castle in Italy!), I've offered to help them out.

So this Saturday I'll be their "guest Galley Wench", doing the cooking for them on the boat, and training their regular cook. If anyone wants to join us, there's plenty of room left - I believe right now there are only 10 divers onboard, and the boat optimally fits 20.

In case you're wondering, here's the menu for this Saturday:

Breakfast: egg tortilla wraps
After the first dive: corn chowder
Lunch: bbq shredded beef sandwiches, homemade potato salad, fruit, chips. (Veggie burgers available for non-meat-eaters.)
For the ride home: homemade lemon bars

We'll be doing three dives out at Catalina. Last Saturday we hit three excellent sites near the Isthmus: Indian Head, Isthmus Reef, and Crane Point.

If you're interested in joining us, please contact Pat at 818-640-9383. Cost is $90 including fills and food.

Geeezz Leejnd I wish I could make it this Saturday, just for the food, but other commitments.
Looking for the 31st or maybe even Friday the 6th.
Enjoy. How are you going to dive and be the gallery wrench?

Well I wish you could come too!

As for diving, I'm only going to do the first and third dive. I'm doing a lot of the prep work the night before. I'll cook breakfast on the way out, then get the soup hot and ready to serve so it'll be available after the first dive. I'll be in the galley for the second dive, then do the third dive, and serve dessert on the way home. Plus, the boat's regular cook will be there with me, so it should be fine.

I've been invited by the owner to do other "guest chef" days, so I'll post when I'm doing it. :)

Hey LeeAnne,

OK - you sold me with the Lemon Bars. Rich & I will be on the boat this Saturday.

Can you post directions to it? I spoke to Pat and he said it was 26th St. landing instead of 22nd St. landing like that old website says.

Thanks,

Greg

Hey LeeAnne,

What no tri tip? Just kidding. What you are doing is fantastic! Wish I could go but am still recovering from rotator cuff repair. The Dr. has taken all my dive gear to make sure I don't sneak out. Mr. C's ladder is much shorter than the Spectre but it is still out of bounds. Its been a long while since I was on the "C" and am glad to see that it is receiving the tender loving care it deserves.

Have a great time.

Don

AWESOME! I've seen you on SB for years, but I don't think we've ever met. I'm looking forward to it! So it was the lemon bars, eh? LOL! I'll try to make 'em extra good just for you. :) So many boats do brownies - I wanted to try something slightly different, and little more "summary" for the season.

As for how to get to the boat, it's on the same dock as Great Escape, right behind the 22nd St. Landing Seafood Grill & Bar, which is at 141 West 22nd Street in San Pedro. I GPS'd that address and it got me right to it. You can park in the parking lot of the restaurant to load and unload, and then move your car across the street to public parking. And don't forget to do that - one guy last week didn't, and he got towed! :shocked2:

Haha Don! ;) I wouldn't even try tri-tip - it's too dependent on the cut, and you never know if you're gonna get a good one. I'm doing a slow-cooked brisket - cook it overnight in the crockpot with a homemade bbq sauce, then shred it. All I gotta do on the boat then is re-heat the meat in this big griddle, then serve it on the buns with extra sauce. Easier than burgers, and better tasting!

I agree the ladder on Mr. C is challenging, but at least it's SHORT! At least compared to some others I've had to climb up. Heck, I can't think of a dive boat I've been on that doesn't have some ladder to climb up. Plus, Pat told me he's planning on replacing the ladders to make them easier (not sure with what, but he mentioned that as a future improvement). The other benefit to Mr. C is the huge swim step - reminds me of the one on Peace, which I love. You just gotta get yourself up on your knees, and the crew gets right behind you to take off your fins. Then you just have to climb up that short ladder. I find that much easier than having to remove my fins in the water and get myself up on a small swim step, as on some other boats. But that's just me - I'm no spring chicken, and my flexibility ain't what it used to be!

Anyway, I hope that your rotator cuff heals soon! I went dry for 6 months - it sucked.

Actually, we have met. I was on the Peace with you on your 50th Bday out at Santa Barbara Island.

Thanks for the directions and we'll see you on Saturday.

OMG that's right! ::seriously embarrassed:: I remember now. Well hey, what can I say, I'm 50 - I forget things!!! :D

See you Saturday!

Wish I could get down there and join in.

Sounds like fun. Have a GREAT trip.

dang, Leeanne, you are killing me! Sounds delish! I wish I could be there but we are going East this weekend, diving NC with the sand tiger sharks and WWII wrecks. ;) Hope to get back out to Calif sometime in next month or two though.
