I was wondering if anybody had any experience with the Ikelite DS-51 strobe? More specifically if they had any experience with the strobe and the WP-DC34 housing? Is the strobe any good?

I am new to underwater photography and want to get a entry level but decent strobe. Would you recommend it?

I would not recommend that strobe unless you use the Ikelite housing. It requires an electrical cable to the camera, which the Ikelite housing can support but the DC34 does not. Ikelite supplies a "Manual Controller" that can watch your camera's strobe then drive the right signals to the DS-51, but it's manual only, no TTL flash control.

Most people with that housing pick a strobe that has an optical sensor built in, and connect to the camera flash with a fiber optic cord. Examples are Inon S2000 and Sea& sea YS-01. They are more modern designs with the sensor built in.
