I haven't had good luck with cameras or lights that took double AA instead of the battery packs.:D

Really? Quest Platinum 2700, supplied with Ikelite's 1 1/2 hour rapid charger, work fine in my DS51. I don't know how long they last as I always recharge them after a day's diving but I've never yet run out of flash power. I love my DS125 but the compact size and low weight of the DS51 make it a very attractive alternative.

Good to know, but how close is close? like a foot or closer? one other thing how do your batties last? I haven't had good luck with cameras or lights that took double AA instead of the battery packs and I use my equipment for work so opening between dives is just asking for leakage.:D

Close, as in inches. Way under a foot for some of the tiny nudibranchs or other invertebrate reef dwellers.

I have had problems with AA's in cameras but never with strobes, don't work about it. You can buy those expensive Lithium Ion AA's from Energizer and they can easily last 2 or 3 days of diving. Or you can use rechargeable "I recommend the Eneloop brand" and change them out after every day.
