Another bit of advice - Never leave your gear in the rinse tank unattended. Most floods supposedly happen in the rinse tank, and you'd be amazed what will get dumped on top of your rig in the tank.

Get to know your rig really well before taking it down - put it together and take it apart like 15 times or something on land.

Make a list of all the things you can do wrong (these forums are very helpful), from leaving the lense cap on, forgetting to load the tape, to hairs in the o-ring.

Read the thread "Compilation: How to flood a camera".

P.S. I like DAN's insurance. There are lots of insurance threads here, and a huge one over at wetpixel. Insurance is your friend!

Have fun!

Suggest developing a routine that never varies re getting ready for the dive and a similar one for changing lenses and or batteries. i.e. insert camera, close all latches, check o-ring for hair, double check port latches are seated properly, place in rinse tank, check for bubbles, at 10 feet check again for bubbles and puddles.

If the routine is the same when you are under the stress of a new dive site, buddy, weather, whatever, the routine will ensure you do what you need to make sure the camera does not flood.

Very good point by Darnold9999 about the routine.
