My Ikelite Auto 35 seems a bit quirky, the manual power settings sometimes work, and sometimes they don't.

Anyone else having this problem? If so what do you do about it?

Thanks, BK

I just returned from Cayman Brac. I used the AF35 and a Nikon coolpix s220 to take over 500 pictures. The settings on the AF35 took a lot of trial-and-error. I finally decided to put it on full power and adust my distance and zoom rather than try and manipulate the auto settings. My pics got much better toward the end of the week, but I'm still not sure that I'm happy with the AF35. I feel like the the strobe and the camera may not be synching up every time. Also, I'm considering purchasing a second AF35 to even out the lighting. I guess I'm having the same issues as you; I'm looking forward to everyone's feedback on the AF35. (Anybody wanna comment on the INON vs. the AF35?)

I use the AF35 (although am looking to upgrade). I have quit using the auto exposure control and simply adjust the power to proper exposure using the histogram on my camera. Are you using a camera will manual control or program mode? I had to many problems with the auto exposure, and felt it was easier to use the manual settings.

I bought the AF35 for use with my Canon A570 before my last trip to the Keys in February. After goofing around with auto settings for 3 days and not being happy with the color and clarity (there was much less backscatter than my non-strobe pictures, which I appreciated), I switched it to full power and started changing the shutter speed and F-Stop on my camera (usually 1/120 and f 8).

I was very happy with it then!
